Understanding Vape Tanks: A Beginner’s Guide

It may seem overwhelming if you're new to vape tanks. But do not fret. This handbook, which we've put together to aid you in navigating the constantly increasing world of tanks, includes everything from the fundamentals to more complex subjects.

They permit the wick to absorb the e-liquid before it contacts the coil. The coil will heat up when a user activates their device, whether with a firing button or by inhaling, turning the vape juice in the wick into tasty vapour. In essence, the miracle of breathing delicious smoke takes place in your vape tank!

On top of your unit's battery, which is the pen-like portion on older models or the bigger, box-shaped portion on more modern models, are the vape tanks. Vape tanks come in various sizes, colours, and forms, but it's crucial to realize that they all serve the same basic purpose: to hold your e-liquids and coil.

WHAT IS A VAPE TANK?

The component of your e-cigarette or mod that contains your e-liquid and houses the coil that vaporises it is called a vape tank. Most devices have a tank on top of the battery, the larger, frequently box-shaped component on newer smartphones, and the pen-like component on older designs.

Tanks often have cylindrical glass bodies with a metallic top and bottom. They feature a stem that runs up the middle and connects to a coil at the bottom before rising to the mouthpiece. The tanks' primary purpose is to permit the liquid to soak into the wick, which comes into contact with the coil. The coil in your vaping device warms up as you turn it on, vaporising the liquid in the wick. The tank replenishes the fluid in the wick, allowing you to keep vaping.

Tanks come in various designs but always serve the same basic purpose.

For example, in some of the earlier versions, the whole reservoir was packed with wick material, and shortly, producers shifted to an empty liquid tank. Still, the coil used to be nearer the top rather than towards the bottom.

DIFFERENT COMPONENTS OF A VAPE TANK

The base, coil, top cap, glass tank, and drip tip are the essential parts of most vape tanks. Every component serves a specific function in the proper operation of your tank and the general effectiveness of your vaping device.

Drip Tip or Mouthpiece

The drip tip, which enables vapour inhalation, is the initial component of your vape tank. Most vape tanks include detachable drip tips. Cleaning and replacing them is simple. There are three sizes of drip tips: 8.5mm regular 510, 10.5mm 710, and 12.5mm wide bore 810.

Coil

The coil, made of cotton and a metal wire, transforms your e-liquids into the tasty vapour we are all familiar with and enjoy. The cotton will soak up the e-liquid of your choice and wick it to the coil when a vaper turns on their device, where it may then be vaporised.

Top Cap

The top cap, which also houses the filling port, secures your vape tank. Choose from ring-style caps that come off with a port on the side, threaded caps that can be screwed off, and swivel caps that remain attached to the tank.

Glass Tank

The glass tank protects your coil and the e-liquid it stores by enclosing them.

O-Ring

O-rings are parts made of nitrile or neoprene that are utilised to stop wonderful e-liquid from leaking between the other sections of the vape tank. It's also also present on coils to guarantee a tight fit. Once you notice more leakage, you will need to replace the O-rings since they'll eventually become loose.

Base

A 510 connection is common threading that enables your tank to attach to your mod. You can usually find it on the exterior of the base of your tank. Your coil is placed on contact points inside the base. The airflow ring found in the bottom of most top vape tanks on the marketplace also allows you to control how much air enters the tank and how much vapour is produced.

Anatomy of the Vape Tank

Most modern tanks adhere to the same basic principles, although coming in various sizes and designs.

  1. The reservoir in which the liquid is housed is in the tank part. It's often made of glass or plastic.
  2. The chimney connects to the coil and creates an air passage through the tank's top half.
  3. The mouthpiece, or drip tip, is frequently changeable for a more personalised experience.
  4. The coil screws into the device's bottom section and connects to the battery. A bottom part with adjustable airflow is seen in the image.
  5. The coil is frequently changeable. It comes in several iterations with varying sensations and is the component that heats up to generate the vapour.

TYPES OF VAPE TANKS

Since all vape tanks serve the same basic function, many models offer slightly different vaping experiences. Understanding whether a vape tank is appropriate for your skill level is crucial before deciding. Let's examine the top vape tanks for both novices and experienced vapers.

MTL Vape Tanks

Mouth-to-lung (MTL) vape tanks are appropriate for devices that simulate cigarette smoking, making them the best choice for new vaping people. An MTL tank makes it possible to take vapour gently into the mouth before inhaling it into the lungs, aiming to mimic the sensation experienced when smoking. Because they can create smaller vapour clouds, MTL vape tanks are also popular among newer vapers.

DTL Vape Tanks

Direct-to-lung (DTL) vape tanks or also called sub-ohm vape tanks are the best option for experienced vapers hankering after massive and stunning vapour clouds! DTL vape tanks, as opposed to MTL vape tanks, simulate the act of smoking a shisha pipe and enable users to inhale straight into their lungs. Many seasoned vapers also frequently choose temperature control tanks for a more customized experience. These tanks have titanium, stainless steel, or nickel coils that let your vaping mod device set a maximum temperature limit for your coil.

Rebuildable Vape Tanks

Even though rebuildable vape tanks and rebuildable tank atomizers or RTAs are less popular than MTL and DTL tanks, many advanced vapers still favour using them with their mod devices. With rebuildable vape tanks, the main distinction is that users will make their coils rather than purchasing them already created. It's not only economical, but it also allows vapers to explore and have more power over the functionality of their vape tank.

Disposable Vape Tanks

Clearomizers, disposable vape tanks, are a popular choice for people who want to try vaping before making a long-term investment in vaping equipment. These vape tanks have an e-liquid-fillable built-in coil that is not replaceable. You can discard and replace this kind of tank once the flavour of your vape juice starts to fade. Some disposable types can be easily recycled, depending on the utilized materials.

HOW TO FILL A VAPE TANK

The same guidelines apply whether filling a tank with top or bottom coils.

In the center of the main tank part of every modern tank is some air tube (or chimney). No matter your tank, there is a simple golden rule for filling it. Keep e-liquid out of the centre tube.

Liquid entering the tube might impair performance by overwhelming the heating coils with excessive liquid or leaking out and creating a mess.

The key is to fill in carefully. An e-liquid container with a fine tip may be beneficial, depending on the tank's design. It makes it possible to dispense e-liquid more precisely. With or without such a tip, tilting the tank and letting the e-liquid drip down the inside of the tank itself is the best method of filling.

Avoid filling the tank past the top marker if the tank has markings. Doing this can prevent the e-liquid from filling the tank's center tube to the brim.

You can get a burned flavour if you use a new tank immediately after filling it. Allow the tank to stand for 5 to 10 minutes to prevent this.

Don't panic if you discover that you have overfilled the tank, hear gurgling noises while using the tank, or find liquid seeping. You can fix this problem with ease. Removing your tank's battery is best while covering the airflow slots with a paper towel. After that, blow forcefully into the mouthpiece to clear the airway of extra fluids.

Flip the tank upside down and, as the term suggests, fill a bottom-filling tank from the bottom up. DO NOT REMOVE THE TOP, as this can result in a significant mess! Once more, take care to avoid getting e-liquid within the center tube.

The procedure is slightly different and often easier for top-filling tanks. Either two discloses a fill hole by doing something else or unscrewing the top piece to uncover the tank section. Pour e-liquid into the tank's body by dripping it into the side again, stopping once you reach the top marking or when the tank is full.

Tanks with fill holes make it simpler to fill them without spilling, but if you spill any e-juice down the side of the tank on your mod or your hands, don't freak out. Just wash it up with kitchen paper and give your hands a quick wash.

HOW TO CLEAN VAPE TANKS

Tanks naturally have a limited lifespan, like most e-cigarette parts. Heating coil buildup, plastic cracking, gunky mouthpieces, and component wear contribute to this. With a little more maintenance, you could be able to increase the lifespan of your products.

Some vapers think coil cleaning is not worthwhile. Please be aware that this is debatable. Modern vertical coils might be challenging to clean without causing damage. However, we think a thorough cleaning can improve the majority of coils.

Cleaning basics are easy. Disassemble every portion of your tank and flush any accumulation away with hot tap water. Most of the time, a straightforward rinse is sufficient to keep buildup to a minimum.

Depending on your particular tank, you may be able to disassemble it to a certain extent. Some contemporary tanks, particularly those with specially designed fill holes, prevent you from removing the top cap. However, you can usually only unscrew the bottom, the coil, and the mouthpiece to remove them. Thus, it would be best if you cleaned the vape tank and top cap together rather than separately.

Wicks on the head may also be rinsed, but drying needs to be done carefully. Wet wicks won't perform properly because water does not vaporise as quickly as e-liquid. With a paper towel, remove the wick moisture completely as possible. After that, give the wicks at least 24 hours to dry completely.

You could rotate the heads by inserting a spare head if you have one. Try storing the wicks overnight in a sealed jar of rice if you need to dry them quickly. Rice will quickly dry since it will absorb moisture.

Use pure grain alcohol or strong, clear alcohol to soak the heads and dissolve some deposits before rinsing if your heating coils are severely clogged. Use only pure rubbing alcohol.

But eventually, you'll have to get rid of your coil. Cleaning only goes so far, and you'll notice that the length of time your coil is functional gets shorter with each clean.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT VAPE TANKS

Can I switch out vape tanks?

You can keep things interesting and develop the confidence to customise and explore to find your ideal vaping experience by switching between various vape tanks and vape kits. You may switch out your vape tank with multiple kits, provided it includes the common screw thread referred to as a 510 connector. It's because most vape tanks may easily fit into any vape kits that need a tank.

How to keep vape tanks?

The ideal method for storing vape tanks is to store them upright and at room temperature to prevent leaks. Always leave a tiny air pocket at the top of your vape tank, check for cracks frequently, and don't overfill it. Additionally, we strongly advise keeping the vape tanks out of the reach of young children and/or pets at all times.

How are vape tanks cleaned?

If you don't regularly clean your vape tank, your equipment won't perform at its best. E-juice residue can accumulate in your tank over time and obstruct internal parts, causing flavour degradation and decreased vapour due to restricted airflow.
